Handling & Delivery costs

There is no Handling & Delivery cost for orders over $50 ex GST unless there are large items in your order.

Orders under $50 (ex GST) & excluding Gift Card only orders:
  • $6.00 ex GST ($6.90 incl GST)
  • Surcharge for Rural Delivery addresses $3.13 ex GST ($3.60 incl GST) for orders under $50 ex GST
Orders with only Gift cards under $50 are charged $2.52 ex GST ($2.90 incl GST)

There is no Handling & Delivery cost for eGift card orders.

Whitcoulls only delivers to addresses within New Zealand.

You must make sure that the delivery address and receiver’s name for your order is accurate and complete including any business name if you ask us to deliver to a work address, because we may be unable to change these details once the order has been placed. We cannot take responsibility for any orders that go missing due to incorrect delivery information provided by you, or because you have not chosen a safe delivery address. Delivery will be deemed to have been made when the goods arrive at the delivery point agreed with you, or, if you are to arrange delivery, when the goods are available for collection by you.

We use Courier Post courier services - no signature is required except for Gift Card deliveries so please check your delivery address is complete and accurate. Deliveries are made during standard weekday business hours.

You must notify us within 3 days of the dispatch date (as stated in the email we send confirming dispatch) if you have not received an item. It is your responsibility to take care of the goods when they have been delivered in accordance with the instructions you have given us.

Stock Status

We pride ourselves on our great range and availability, with thousands of products in stock in our Auckland warehouse. Many book titles are available in our suppliers warehouses. An Add to Cart button will display for any product that is available to order. Some products may be temporarily out of stock or are soon to be released books - these will display a View Details button - you can then use the check in store tool to see which branches currently have stock.

For each product that’s on our site you will see one of the following:

Ships In 2-5 days: If in stock, these products will be dispatched in 2-5 working days from your order being placed, unless an item ordered is unexpectedly out of stock, or you have provided a rural delivery or RD address. Orders received before midday will be shipped the same day, weekdays only, (excludes public holidays). These products can also be found in many of our stores. Use the Check In Store tool on the Quick View or Product Detail page to see if a store near you has stock. It pays to ring the store first if you are planning a special journey to buy a particular product, as stock is only updated overnight and can be sold throughout the day at the store.

Ships in 4-6 ; 5-7; 10-12 or 12-15 days : These products are in our suppliers warehouses, so lead times vary according to which supplier can provide us with stock. Please allow 3-4 additional days if your delivery address is outside metropolitan areas or is an RD or rural address. These products are not stocked in our stores and are only available to order on the website.

View Details : Sorry these products can't be ordered online for the time being, but you can check to see if a store near you has stock.

PreOrder :There's nothing like eagerly anticipating a new release, so where we can, we offer pre orders to ensure you don't miss out. The release date is shown and will be the day your order is dispatched.

Addressing Your Order

We don't use a signature required service except for Gift Card orders. Please ensure you include the Business name and if delivering to a unit or apartments ensure the number or is entered in the Unit field and the Apartment name is included so the courier driver can find you! Delivery to PO Box or Private Bag addresses is also no problem. For rural delivery addresses please put your RD number into the Suburb field.

Delivery process and time frames

We use Courier Post couriers to deliver all our parcels. When your order is dispatched you'll receive an email with the courier ticket tracking link embedded in it - simply click on the link and you will be able to see the stages your parcel is taking to reach you. If you have any questions about delivery once you receive this email, please contact Courier Post http://www.courierpost.co.nz/contact-us/ directly as they can help you best once your parcel has been dispatched from our warehouse.

Once an order is dispatched it gets delivered the following working day to addresses in the main metro areas of both North and South Islands. For smaller centres allow another working day for delivery. Rural Delivery (RD) addresses can take longer as Courier Post passes their parcels onto RD contractors who then make the delivery.

What happens if there's no one home when the courier calls?

Don't worry - they will leave a Calling Card - your parcel stays with Courier Post and they will re-deliver it at a mutually agreed time and place. Simply call the 0800 number on the card to arrange a re-delivery. You will need to read out the ticket number from the card so make sure you have it handy when you call. I received the email notification that you've dispatched my order but it hasn't arrived?

The dispatch email does have a courier ticket tracking link embedded in it -click on the link and you will be able to see where the parcel is in Courier Posts delivery cycle. If the parcel status shows there has been an attempted delivery, please contact Courier Post

Please contact us within 3 days of us sending you the dispatch email, if you haven't received your parcel.
