I don't know a thing about golf, and don't care to learn - but I do love a good story, and this certainly is one. It tells about a child born to parents determined to make him into the best golf player in the world - and how well they succeeded, creating a sublime sportsman, and at the same time, a completely one dimensional character - The Chosen One, who earned $100 million dollars a year in endorsements alone.
This is meticulously researched - the authors spoke to more than 400 people - friends, coaches, sponsors, girlfriends, family, and many others, and the verbatim conversations and inclusion of text messages sent and received at critical times show an astonishing depth of information.
But more than this, it#s an absorbing story about someone at the pinnacle of his career who fell so far. The rise, and the fall, are equally compelling. Surprising even myself, I loved this. - Joan
